HEALING AFTER HELENE
Cotton CommUNITY Delivers 3,000 Cases of Water and 1,000 Meals to North Carolina Following Hurricane Helene
After Hurricane Helene devastated the Southeast U.S. with its flooding rains and severe winds in September 2024, Cotton was there to help restore impacted communities. Helene’s conditions especially impacted western North Carolina, including the city of Asheville, where record rainfall and mudslides left residents facing major damage and tragedy. Seeing the devastation, Cotton CommUNITY, in partnership with Cotton Foundation, reached out to neighbors in need in Asheville and found a way to give back to the communities where they work.
On October 4, 2024, Cotton CommUNITY and Cotton Foundation held “Healing After Helene” where volunteers distributed 3,000 cases of water and 1,000 boxed lunches to affected residents in North Carolina. Those in need stopped by the distribution point, a local high school, in Asheville to pick up these needed resources from Cotton. Teachers and students of the school even jumped in to help pass out the supplies. Cotton also recognized that traveling safely was not possible for all residents in the hurricane’s aftermath, and the team mobilized further into the surrounding communities of Black Mountain and Swannanoa, bringing the resources to local churches.
